Bio: Weiging is a Relationship Manager of HTC Vive. He is responsible for VR Eco-system Enabling for Asia Pacific, developer partnership management as well as exploring potential business opportunity. Prior to joining VR team, he has rich experience in big data analysis and software architecture review for mobile devices.

Dr. Shuen-Huei Guan | Technical Director of KKStream
Abstract: Video streaming (or more broadly OTT, over-the-top content) becomes the hot topic after giant players, including YouTube, Apple, Twitch, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and even Facebook. Netflix, among the list, leads the business, paradigm shift (cord cutting), content production and even streaming technology. In this casual talk, I'd like to try bring out some technical or operational issues and todos from streaming service provider's viewpoint. Let's see what we can discover from them to cook out new research topics or even startup ideas with practical needs.
Bio: Before joining the big trend of video streaming in KKBOX (and then KKStream), Drake has been serving as R&D manager and technology pioneer in Digimax, an animation studio, for 9 years. He was fortunate to participate some animation projects with partners like National Palace Museum (故宮博物院), NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), U-Theatre (優人神鼓) and even Pixar's RenderMan team. He started as a Computer Graphics researcher (SIGGRAPH maniac), stereoscopic vision lover, casual movie fan and then video streaming pioneer in Taiwan. He believes people first than technology even though his background is in STEM.
Sam Ding | VMFive CEO
Abstract: The technology of app streaming, including mobile virtual machine, hybrid cloud infrastructure and adaptive streaming will be presented in this talk. There are several real cases will be shared to understand the pros and cons when using app streaming. Finally, we will think about the trend of app streaming.
Bio: Sam Ding is the founder and CEO of VMFive, works on the mobile virtualization, app streaming and programatic advertising technology. When he studied Ph.D. degree in NTHU, he led three advanced simulation and virtualization projects, PQEMU, ARMvisor and HSAemu. In 2011, PQEMU had two parallelization models to accerlate the simulation speed of QEMU and the the publication of PQEMU won the best paper award in ICPADS 2011. In 2012, the ARMvisor can run multiple embedded virtual machines on an ARM based mobile platform. In 2014, the HSAemu was the first system level emulator for HSA platform, which can do co-simulation of CPU and GPU to run unmodified OpenCL program. From 2014, he has found several startups to make innovations on mobile and cloud technology.
Dr. Shannon Chen | Research Scientist, 360 Media Team, Facebook
Abstract: Semantics-aware (context-aware) content delivery framework is a conceptual framework proposed in recent years to introduce high level inputs from physical and psychophysical regimes to resolve system level trade-offs in a complex multimedia service. As a successful example of adopting semantic-awareness, 360 video service at Facebook is enabled as a feasible medium for its billion-scale users to share and experience with one another in a more media-enriched immersion. Join me in this talk to hear about the journey of how it happened.
Bio: Dr. Shannon Chen is a research scientist at Facebook. As an original member of the VRApps team where all 360 research at Facebook begins, he is the inventor of the renowned Pyramid Projection and a core developer of Dynamic Streaming. Dr. Chen received his PhD in Computer Science from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). He is the recipient of Saburo Muroga Fellowship, a member of the Phi Tau Phi Scholastic Honor Society, and was a board member of the Graduate Academic Council of UIUC. Chen has published in ACM MMSYS, ACM TOMM, IEEE/ACM TON, ACM SIGCOMM, ACM Multimedia, IEEE INFOCOM, and has been awarded best presentation (2016), best paper nominee (2013), and the winner of ACM Multimedia Grand Challenge (2013).

Abstract: Video is hard in both technical and business perspectives. As internet users shift their eyeballs and time to videos, fragmented infrastructure, limited bandwidth, variable user behaviors, and volatile revenue models, among others, have entangled to form unique challenges in the business world of our time. In this talk, Sega will share his years of experience in internet videos, covering technical challenges and business opportunities in the future.
Bio: Sega Cheng is co-founder and CEO of IKALA (愛卡拉), with the mission to enable customers’ online video business. Its’ enterprise product StraaS.io, is a video SaaS platform for customers to build their video applications. IKALA is also the owner of LIVEhouse.in, a well-known live content production team in Asia. He is sitting at the board of Gamania, one of the largest gaming companies in Asia. He is also an advisor of Taipei City Hall. He was an advisor at Youth Advisor Group, reporting directly to the prime minister of Taiwan.
Sega had been a software engineer in Google for 6 years, where he participated in a wide a spectrum of important projects during the term, including Android media, web search infrastructure, Google maps, and iGoogle. He received his master degree from Stanford University, specializing in artificial intelligence in computer science department.
